Vaste ingrediënten: explosies, veel vrouwelijk bloot, flinterdunne scenario’s en minimale budgetten. Hoewel Cannon ook artistiek succes behaalde met onder andere het Oscargenomineerde Runaway Train, is de naam synoniem aan het soort actiefilms dat in de jaren tachtig het videotheekaanbod domineerde.
